Meet The Directors

Judy was a vocal music teacher for Mt. Diablo Unified School District for over 30 years. During that time she received the "Teacher of the Year" award and started musical theatre at Walnut Acres Elementary. She received a BA in music with emphasis in voice. She has performed leading roles in operas, operettas, and musicals throughout the Bay Area and received a Shelly Award for her leading role in "Naughty Marietta". One of her greatest joys is to share her experience and love of musical theatre with CUYT students.

With over 30 years of experience as a Drama teacher and director, Lee helps our actors understand the on-stage world and guides them creatively to bring their characters to life.  Lee is also our production manager for the two full-scale musicals each year, developing each show's concept and look, as well as coordinating all aspects of on-stage work, backstage crews, and front of house.

Frank Ryken has worked in children's theatre for 35 years as a music specialist in Walnut Creek School District, with the Danville Girls Chorus, and with CUYT. He is a private voice instructor, choral director, and operatic tenor. He and his wife Judy Ryken have performed leading roles in regional opera and community theatre productions. He is committed to sharing the joys and profound benefits of musical theatre with children.

As a past actor of CUYT, Sabrina has come back with her 10 years of teaching experience to extend her love of theater and music onto new actors. She works in all areas of directing to help our shows come to life.
